I could never relax in social settings. Especially office birthdays – they were the worst. A bunch of small talk paired with cakes and treats…it was a recipe for disaster.
I’d pretend to listen to what people were saying but all I could think was…
When will I get my piece?
I would invariably offer to cut the cake.
Anything that would a) put me in close proximity of the food and b) give me something to do so I didn’t have to just sit there feeling anxious.
I don’t know what it was about social settings but they just made me want to eat. Everyone else seemed so comfortable and happy and I just felt agitated, awkward and alone.
I wanted to be comfortable in my own skin and present with the people around me, but instead I’d just be anxiously obsessing about food or wondering what you thought of me.
It was such a prison. I wanted to be more social and have friends who I could have genuine connections with but I didn’t know how to be normal around others.
And then there was the food.
Food was my friend. The kind of friend who never talked back, never judged and was always there.
Only problem is that this friend eventually turned on me – giving me more guilt and shame and eventually robbing everything from me – my energy, my confidence, my power…
It took me two decades to discover how to get free from my social anxiety and actually be comfortable just being me.
And now that I have discovered the secret to being authentic and having genuine connections I want to share these Connection-Activating Tools with you, which is why I recorded this video for you:
