Do you want more inner trust and confidence?
You’re not alone. Wanting more inner trust and confidence is one of the top 3 desires I hear from women who struggle with their relationship with food and their bodies.
And I get it – when you’ve made so many food or fitness promises that you haven’t been able to keep easy to slip into self doubt and low confidence.
As your food addiction freedom advocate, I want to help you cultivate more inner trust so you can make more congruent choices – because congruency creates freedom.
That’s why I made a quick video for you called Instant Strategy To Trust Yourself and included one of my favorite tools to instantly accessing my own inner wisdom. Try it for yourself and see what you find.
I also want to share with you the top 3 mistakes I see many smart, spiritual women make that keeps them in doubt and distrust – (and what to do instead).
MISTAKE # 1 – Gaining control
Many women I speak with tell me they just want to get control of food and stop feeling so out of control. I remember saying this very thing so I get it. The problem is that control creates more rules, rigidity and restriction. It actually makes us live smaller, more contracted lives and keeps us up in our heads obsessing.
Instead of trying to gain control as a way to trust yourself, practice more letting go. Think of taking the training wheels off with your relationship with food. Doesn’t mean you’re going to go careering down a steep hill and go completely out of control. What it means is that you’re willing to let go, wobble a little bit, but that at the end of the day, you’ll find a new balance and rhythm.
MISTAKE # 2 – Knowing what to do
Have you ever said this: “I know what to do I’m just not doing it?” If you’re a smart woman who’s read a lot about nutrition, tried myriad self help solutions or has success in her own life relying on her cognitive capabilities, “knowing what to do” can be a real trap. Knowing what to do can keep you stuck for two reasons:
1) You can get so immersed in the cognitive aspects of what you know that you miss out on experiencing inner trust for yourself.
2) Everything that you know brought you to where you are right now. So if you want to go further, you have to be willing to NOT KNOW.
That’s right, the key to shifting from information to inner trust is to actually practice not knowing, which allows you to be open to receive the deeper truth bubbling from within that can inspire you from a more authentic, embodied place.
MISTAKE # 3 – Trying to figure it out on your own
Our seeming “lack of control” in spite of “knowing what to do” can leave us feeling embarrassed and ashamed. From that place, the last thing on your mind is, ‘oh, let me go tell someone how I picked food up out of the trash and ate it.’ Or, ‘yep, marched right over to the supermarket and got a tub of ice cream then polished it off in a sitting.’
We don’t tend to share these things with others. We tend to do them in hiding and then feeling guilty and not wanting to put our mess on anyone else, we try to figure out how to fix it on our own. This tactic it tricky because it seems like it’s in the direction of inner guidance. But really trying to figure things out on your own is based in limiting beliefs and fears that are keeping you stuck, isolated and alone.
The problem with trying to figure things out on your own is that ‘wherever you go, there you are’ – you still get in your own way and stuck in your own sabotage cycles. Instead of trying to figure it out by yourself, the surest way to breakthrough to the path of freedom is to ASK for help.
Asking for help takes you down the path of humility and honesty. It invites you to be vulnerable, to be open and to receive. All of these qualities are vital ingredients in creating a solid foundation of lasting freedom. So ask away – ask the universe, ask a mentor, ask God – and notice how your willingness to get outside your comfort zone launches you on your path of freedom.
