Because all my fear was saying was…
”You’re not ready to do an event. You need to save up more money first. What if no one comes? What if you let them down? What if it’s a failure!?!? Not now. Do it later.”
See that’s what fear does to me.
Fear convinces me to play small and hold back – baiting me with worries about disappointing, being judged, being rejected, looking bad and failing.
And it’s deceptive too because for me, fear doesn’t always appear as straightforward fear.
Fear appears as logical reasons, justifications, explanations, distractions, confusion and stories that sound very reasonable and attempt to keep me safe and comfortable.
But the truth is there is nothing comfortable about it.
Holding back and not moving forward with what my gut knows I need to do makes me tense, anxious, irritated, obsessed, stressed and unable to take a full breath.
I share this because I see this very pattern happen with women when it comes to their relationship with food.
So many women I talk to know they need to do something about the food. They tell me about their health concerns and how they can’t go on another day being so frustrated, anxious and ashamed.
But then fear of failing, of being vulnerable, of finally not having an excuse and needing to rise to their greatness – is often times too scary, and so they let the justifications, reasons and distractions crowd their inner knowing and drown out their convictions.
I see this all the time. And I totally get it. Because that’s the very pattern that used to take me back to the food every time. I needed to numb out from all that discomfort and inner angst.
I’m so grateful that a mentor told me this many years ago when I was still in the food:
“You either have reasons or results.”
Because when I got into my fear spiral about hosting this event recently, I remembered this saying, and was able to immediately call myself on my own bullshit.
I then said a prayer, and thought of the women who I’m meant to help with this event. I felt their pain, their shame and their inner blame, and it motivated me to get over my “reasons,” and get into action.
I’m so grateful I did because what ensured was all magic and miracles…
Women getting free from life-long wounds, breaking through blocks, releasing years of shame, gaining the clarity they needed, feeling connected and not alone and accessing new levels of freedom…
One woman shared,
“I spent $14,000 on a year-long coaching certification that didn’t provide
what I just got over the last 2 days at Freedom Embodied LIVE.”
And all of these breakthroughs were made possible because I was willing to step beyond my comfort zone, stop living in reasons and instead create the space where women could get some serious results.
That’s why I’m so passionate about holding women’s hands and helping them walk through this fear like my mentor did. Because on our own, we simply won’t get out of our own way.
Our stories and reasons will crowd our convictions and we’ll stay stuck.
And for many of us, to stay stuck is to bottom out – because we stay in that restless, irritable and disconnected place – not aligned with our purpose, not helping others, feeling like frauds and watching our lives pass us by.
So if you find yourself in that place – caught between your conviction and the reasons and justifications that have you playing safe and holding back, I want you to know that I totally get you – and I’m also totally calling you on it.
Because you’re just not gonna get away with staying in the stuckness and stories another day – putting off the fulfilling, fun and freedom that you’re meant to have – not on my watch. 😉
So consider this a love tap from me – taking a stand for you and what you really want – and holding you in the vision of what is possible for you and your relationship with food, your body and your life.
I love you, I’m here for you and I’m holding your flag.
In dedication of all things raw, real and recovered,
